Alpha Xi Delta’s Philanthropic Focus
The Kindly Hearts Initiative
The Kindly Hearts Initiative serves as the umbrella to our national philanthropic focus of supporting children and teens experiencing foster care or homelessness. Alpha Xi Deltas across the country support two Key Impact Organizations, FosterClub and StandUp for Kids, making a national and regional difference under the umbrella of our focus.
Letters of Love
All Alpha Xi Delta chapters and alumnae associations participate in Letters of Love, Alpha Xi Delta’s national letter writing fundraising campaign. Held annually during the month of November this campaign benefits Alpha Xi Delta’s two Key Impact Organizations, StandUp for Kids and FosterClub.
Theta Omegas Impact
Alpha Xi Delta is proud to highlight our long-term philanthropy, the Kindly Hearts Initiative, which focuses on supporting children and teens experiencing foster care or homelessness. This initiative serves as the umbrella for our philanthropic efforts, encompassing both national and regional organizations dedicated to making a difference, as well as offering opportunities to partner with local impact organizations.
In New Mexico, there are between 2,000 and 2,600 children in foster care, with approximately 200 of them in Dona Ana County alone. Additionally, the 2021-2022 school year saw roughly 9,835 homeless children and youth enrolled in public schools across the state, with 68% living with another family and 7% unsheltered. Alpha Xi Delta is committed to supporting organizations that provide crucial resources and support for these vulnerable children and teens.
A key partner in our efforts is the NM Friends of Foster Children, a nonprofit that works tirelessly to support foster children across New Mexico. Their programs provide educational assistance, recreational opportunities, and basic needs to help foster children thrive. Through our collaboration, we contribute to their mission of improving the well-being of foster children in our state.
In addition to our own events, our chapter enjoys serving the community and participating in philanthropic initiatives organized by other Greek-letter organizations. From Service for Sight to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, engaging in these efforts helps our sisters realize their potential and make a meaningful impact. We are grateful for the opportunity to support these causes and donate to fellow Greeks and their philanthropies.
Additional Philanthropic Events
The Theta Omega chapter of Alpha Xi Delta raises money and awareness for the Kindly Hearts Initiative through events like "Xi Week," a week-long fundraising push with activities such as penny wars, pageants, game nights, and athletic competitions. We collaborate with the NM Friends of Foster Children, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting foster children across New Mexico by providing educational assistance, recreational programs, and basic needs. While "Xi Week" is our biggest event, we also stay involved year-round with clothing and toy drives, highway cleanups, and campus service projects. The Kindly Hearts Initiative is at the heart of our chapter’s mission.
A letter from our Philanthropy Vice President
“Alpha Xi Delta is deeply committed to supporting the Kindly Hearts Initiative because every child deserves a safe, stable, and loving home. The reality that so many children and teenagers experience homelessness is heartbreaking, but through our efforts, we strive to be part of the solution. Through Xi Week, fundraisers, and community events, we work to raise both funds and awareness for this cause. While financial contributions create tangible change, the way we speak about and advocate for children in need is just as impactful. By approaching this issue with compassion and understanding, we can challenge misconceptions, inspire action, and ensure that young individuals feel seen, valued, and supported.
Together, we can help give every child the support they deserve."
Xoxi,
